Joel David Moore, who plays Norm Spellman, has confirmed that he is back in New Zealand filming more of Avatar 3.
Moore shared a picture of Giovanni Ribisi, who will be making a comeback as Parker Selfridge.
Selfridge is ready to carry on working for the RDA, though it’s unclear if he’ll be part of the mission to extract Amrita.
A fresh update on Avatar 3’s filming suggests that two of the original cast members will make a comeback. The story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his new family is continued in Avatar: The Way of Water, filmmaker James Cameron’s return to the Pandoran universe following his 2009 debut. The director is currently working hard on Avatar 3, which will feature both the return of several well-known characters and the introduction of new ones.
Actor Joel David Moore, who portrayed Norm Spellman in the two previous movies, has now confirmed on social media that he is returning to New Zealand to continue filming Avatar 3.
Actor Giovanni Ribisi is pictured in the first carousel image; he will return to the character of Parker Selfridge in the third film. Dileep Rao, who portrays Dr. Max Patel, is also shown in another picture. The last picture in the carousel is a wonderful flashback that shows Michelle Rodriguez, Moore, Sigourney Weaver, and Worthington while they were filming the original movie. Moore’s complete caption can be seen below:
It is always so sentimental to return to Wellington, New Zealand. After 17 years of working on this business, seeing old friends and faces, and putting in the labor, it’s become like a home away from home. The family has expanded, but the goals and methods of operation remain same. I’m grateful for my #Avatar family and can’t wait to share what comes next with you! (The final image is a throwback to 17 years ago, with Sig Sam M Rod and our incredible Kiwi crew) 🙏
Parker Selfridge’s Potential Involvement in Avatar 3
The RDA Mission Remains on Pandora
In the first Avatar, Selfridge is a secondary adversary who stands in for the avaricious goals of the RDA as it mines unobtanium on Pandora. He is featured in a new sequence added for the sequel, leaving the planet in a spaceship, and suggests that the Na’vi fight against the RDA is not yet done. He is still alive at the end of the movie. Selfridge makes a brief cameo appearance at the beginning of Avatar: The Way of Water, although he stays out of the picture for the most part.
In March 2023, producer Jon Landau declared that Selfridge “will be back in force as we move forward,” paving the way for a considerably larger role in the Avatar 3 cast. Selfridge appeared to have retreated to Earth for a while following the events of the first movie, but it now appears that he will be joining the RDA operations on Pandora. His objective in the first movie was to mine unobtanium, but in the follow-up, he discovers Amrita, a chemical secreted by Tulkun that slows down the aging process. In the follow-up, acquiring further of this material can become his new objective.
Having said that, it’s also conceivable that Selfridge has been demoted in light of his shortcomings in the first film, and that he will be in charge of a less important operation than the extraction of Amrita. In either case, a reunion with Jake and Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is undoubtedly in the works, and Selfridge might be utilized to further develop the RDA’s objectives on Pandora. Unfortunately, it will probably be some time before further specific information is made public given Avatar 3’s release date is still over a year and a half away.
