Moana 2 Confirmed At Disney In Surprise Announcement
In a surprise announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirms Moana 2 is on the way, and it’ll arrive this year. The original Moana was released in 2016 and earned positive reviews on its way to a $629.6 million worldwide gross. It is consistently one of the most popular titles on Disney+ as well. The studio previously announced a Moana television show was in the works for the streamer, but those plans have changed.
Now, Disney’s Iger has confirmed Moana 2 is officially happening. Not only did he announce the movie’s existence, but he revealed it will arrive in theaters on November 27, 2024. This is in addition to the in-development live-action remake of the original movie. Moana 2 will be directed by Dave Derrick Jr., while Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina are on hand to write new music. Disney reveals:
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
