The much-awaited battle between the Greens and the Blacks has started, and Aegon II is acting foolish as usual. But this time, his plans backfired, and we find him laying on the ground with his dragon, his injuries sustained during the journey. Is Aegon okay? is the first thing that comes to Ser Criston Cole’s mind as he briefly loses consciousness and passes out as well. That’s what all fans have been wondering, anyway, ever since HOTD Season 2 Episode 4’s unexpected conclusion. Let us ascertain the death of Aegon Targaryen.
Aegon Is Not Dead, But It Only Exists Partly
The trailer for the upcoming episode intriguingly shows that Aegon II is alive despite suffering deadly injuries. Although incorporating most of the existing content from George R.R. Martin’s books, House of the Dragon has undergone significant revisions. Thankfully, however, the authors did not change Aegon’s plot from the books and did not force him to pass away too soon.
King Viserys didn’t regret his decision to crown Aegon, even after years had passed. This is because Aegon was never the appropriate man for the job. He has never hesitated to act on his impulses or considered the repercussions of his choices. For example, he hanged all the rat catchers of the Red Keep after losing Jahaerys, and when Otto Hightower chastised him, Aegon wasted no time in removing him from the Hand’s position. Apart from it, Ser Criston Cole was named the Hand by him, which was obviously unfortunate.
Even though it wasn’t necessary, Aegon arrives on his dragon as the combat at Rook’s Rest has now begun. Subsequently, we witness the clash of three formidable dragons: Meleys, Sunfyre, and Vhagar. While Vhagar and her rider, Aemond, escape unhurt, Meleys passes away along with Rhaenys, Sunfyre, and Aegon as they tumble into the ground from terrible injuries.
