Netflix’s The Witcher will conclude after five seasons.
Netflix has announced ahead of time that The Witcher has been renewed for a fifth and final season, even though the fourth season is now in production.
The fourth season of The Witcher has now been officially confirmed to be in development, eleven months after the third season premiered on Netflix.
Netflix has officially verified that the fourth season is in production on a number of platforms by posting on social media.
The filming process is expected to last for many months, culminating in Q4 of 2024.
About the beginning of production, creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said the following:
With great delight, we are starting filming The Witcher’s penultimate season, which features an incredible ensemble of actors, including some highly anticipated newcomers, including Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We are ecstatic to be able to conclude Andrzej Sapkowski’s works in a grand and fulfilling way. If we didn’t push our cast of relatives to the brink of absurdity, it wouldn’t be our show. Watch to find out how the narrative concludes.

A logline for the fourth season of Netflix has also been released; “The new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as they must navigate the war-torn Continent and its many demons away from one another following the devastating, Continent-altering events that finish out season three. They have a chance to survive the baptism of fire and reunite with one another if they can accept and guide the groups of outcasts they end up in.”
Netflix has confirmed that it has renewed The Witcher for a fifth and final season, as revealed by the production announcement for season 4.
The events of the final three novels—Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake—will be covered in The Witcher’s fourth and fifth seasons.
Why did Netflix decide to halt The Witcher’s five-season run?
The Witcher has drawn criticism for altering Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantastical tale ever since it debuted on Netflix.
Fans of the book, notably former main actor Henry Cavill, found that the television series’ writers’ vision was very different from theirs with every new episode.
Everyone was taken aback when Henry Cavill said he would be leaving the role of Geralt of Rivia after three seasons, despite having verbally committed to stay in the role for however long was required.
Long before it was revealed that Cavill wasn’t satisfied with the direction the series was taking, there had been rumours. The part would be filled by Liam Hemsworth, it was soon confirmed.
Following Cavill’s exit, Netflix encountered strong criticism, which intensified when it appeared that the actor was the target of a smear campaign. Thus, it only makes sense for the streaming service to attempt and wrap up the show as soon as possible given the audience’s declining faith in it and the outrage following Cavill’s exit from the series.
