In addition, the programme has been hiring for a number of roles and is going through some changes behind the scenes.
The creative team behind One Piece has been discreetly working on the second season since Netflix renewed the show more than half a year ago. With shipbuilding taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, pre-production is well advanced, and production is set to start this summer. Updates on One Piece season 2 may be found here.
An earlier ProductionWeekly Issue 1393, initially released in mid-March 2024, said that production is scheduled to begin around June 2024. The show’s listings also include Spain and Mexico for the upcoming season, although they also imply that filming will still take place in South Africa. We haven’t been able to confirm those filming sites, though. Since then, we’ve learned that production is scheduled to start in mid-June 2024.
We are aware that the shoot is scheduled to run at least seven months and a bit, ending in late January 2025. That is around the same amount of time as the first season’s filming, which took place over six months and 22 days, from January 31 to August 22, 2022.
Regarding the start date, a FilmAfrika official opted not to comment.
Naturally, there is always a chance that these dates will alter, and the number of episodes for the upcoming season has not yet been determined.
Casting for One Piece Season 2 is now underway.

As hinted at in the season 1 post-credits sequence, Smoker and Tony Tony Chopper from the season 2 announcement video shared by Eiichiro Oda himself are the only confirmed new characters for season 2 thus far.
Unfortunately, none of the information from these casting calls is available to the public, but we do know that they were searching for actors in a variety of age groups.
Just for fun, we placed As a little bit of fun, we created a list of actors and characters that we believe belong in the upcoming series.
In the meantime, you can see tidbits of the writer’s room and more in the April Fools video, where Jacob Romero flatly refused to answer any of your inquiries! We should be hearing more about One Piece in the coming months!
