OVERVIEW
Season 5 of The Boys has been announced, thus the season 3 tease about a major character’s death won’t occur just yet.
The success of the programme depends on Karl Urban’s portrayal as Billy Butcher, who maintains a high level of tension and the story.
Even though Butcher’s future is now uncertain, the plot of the programme makes sense given the dark conclusion found in the comics.
A significant character death that was previously hinted at in season 3 of the Amazon series The Boys is definitely happening. The superhero series made its debut in 2019 and has since grown to become one of the most streamed TV shows globally. The fourth season of The Boys is almost here. The Boys, however, received a green light for a fifth season before a single episode of the fourth season had aired. Although many have found this to be excellent news, it means that a certain character’s death is not yet possible.
The Boys is set in a world where superheroes are real and most of them are either corrupt or use their talents for evil. It is based on the adult comic book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The titular vigilante group has the task of taking down the Supes. There’s no doubt that more violence, satire, and completely insane superhero antics will be seen in The Boys’ fifth season. However, it’s possible that the reveal of season 5 unintentionally revealed a significant plot point involving a well-liked character from season 4.
Now that Season 5 is official, The Boys Season 4 Cannot Kill Billy Butcher, Right?
Without Karl Urban’s Character, the Show Wouldn’t Function
Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, an ex-SAS agent with a terrible past and a vengeful spirit, serves as The Boys’ de facto commander. Butcher desires the complete eradication of superheroes. In season three, Butcher started injecting himself with V24, a Compound V variant that offers users temporary superpowers, out of his intense desire to outwit Homelander and the other Supes. Butcher became terminally ill in the third season finale of The Boys, despite the chemical’s use being proved to have serious negative effects.
Because of this, many may have anticipated that season 4 would follow up on this plot and center on Urban’s character trying one more time to put an end to Homelander and Billy Butcher’s rivalry and bring down Vought as a whole. It would have been entirely reasonable to conclude that The Boys’ forthcoming season will be its final one in the absence of any information on the show’s future beyond season 4. That being said, it is extremely improbable that Butcher will pass away in season 4 given the news of The Boys season 5.
After all, Butcher serves as the main character of the program even though his intentions and strategies are morally dubious. His desire for vengeance and his loathing of Homelander and superheroes in general are what drive the show and give The Boys its emotional complexity. Besides, Butcher is pretty much the show’s face. Therefore, it appears improbable that Butcher would have survived to season 4 and be gone from season 5. However, this also implies that the reveal of season 5 has largely neutralized the stakes and intensity that existed at the start of season 4.
It’s Most Likely Still Too Soon for Butcher to Die in The Boys
There is a sense that The Boys, the TV series, is moving in the same direction as its source material, even though it only partially adheres to the format of the graphic novels on which it is based. The comic book version of Billy Butcher is an antihero, much like the one in the Amazon series, with gray areas in his morality and ethics. His ending is therefore not at all pleasant. One of The Boys’ most unsettling destinies is met by Butcher when he meets his creator in the last chapter, “The Bloody Doors Off”.
In the comics, Butcher’s passing has a significant bearing on how the tale ends. The movie “The Bloody Doors Off” depicts Butcher devising a scheme to eliminate every superhero and super-adjacency individual on the earth. Butcher executes the other team members who object. Hughie uses a metal spike to fatally wound Butcher after learning of his scheme and that he was accountable for the deaths of the others. It comes as no surprise that Butcher smiles mischievously at death.
Instead of Butcher, The Boys Season 4 May See Another Significant Death
One Character Has Been Discreetly Missing From The Marketing for The Show
Even though Billy Butcher won’t be passing away anytime soon, a significant character death is still possible in season 4. The group’s expert in chemicals and weaponry, Frenchie, is conspicuously missing from a large portion of the advertisement for the upcoming season. Although he appears in a few fleeting moments in the season 4 trailer of The Boys, he hasn’t received the same attention as many of the other key characters. Frenchie’s death would carry a great deal of emotional weight and raise the stakes because of his bond with Kimiko.
A cherished character’s passing is always bittersweet, of course, but in the case of The Boys, it seems like a key figure ought to go down sooner rather than later. Even though the show has a lot of violence, the main heroes have all somehow survived three entire seasons and counting. There are a lot of ridiculous and absurd scenes in The Boys, so viewers will need to suspend their disbelief for a while. But in order for viewers to really connect with the show’s emotional implications, more characters must pass away.
The Boys Season 4 will debut on Amazon Prime Video on June 13, 2024.
