Co-showrunner Patrick McKay and producing director Charlotte Brändström suggest that Season 2 of The Rings of Power will contain a huge, multi-episode fight.
When good and evil collide, the fight will be bigger, bloodier, and last longer than it did in Southlands in season 1.
The fight is perhaps a reenactment of the Second Age’s War of the Elves and Sauron, portending impending catastrophic events at Eregion.
Co-showrunner Patrick McKay of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and producing director Charlotte Brändström have hinted to a multi-episode fight that will take place in season 2, along with a fresh look at Elrond’s armor. The Second Age of Middle-earth will be further explored in The Rings of Power season 2, which will take place after the creation of the first three titular Rings. Promotional materials have disclosed the return of Sauron as the elf Annatar and the consequences of Mordor’s ascendancy for the global community. A huge battle was previously hinted to being included in the upcoming episodes.
The Rings of Power season 2 will feature a multi-episode conflict that McKay and Brändström hinted at in an interview with Empire, stating that it will be even bigger than the fight in the Southlands in season 1. The creators hinted at the amount of brutality to be expected in the fight as well as its true scope. See what McKay and Brändström said in the section below:
Patrick McKay: We enjoy a good fight. With Season 2, it was intended to accomplish something considerably larger and more ambitious, spanning several days, weeks, months, and episodes rather than just one huge event.
Charlotte Brändström: It will have a tenfold increase in size. There are some extremely violent and terrible scenes in this story, but overall it’s truly the fight between light and darkness.

The Conflict Might Be The Elves vs. Sauron War
The seriousness of the impending struggle was also hinted at by executive producer Lindsey Weber, who even predicted “terrifying moments” will occur. The first indication of what the multi-episode war will involve and what it will mean narratively is Elrond’s involvement in the impending battle. The involvement of the Elven characters from The Rings of Power has previously been established, suggesting that the Elves discover Sauron’s plans to use the Rings to take control of Middle-earth. They may be trying to prevent him from becoming more powerful by engaging in combat.
Given that The Rings of Power distills Second Age components, the multi-episode fight may be a reimagining of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The War of the Elves and Sauron. Following the One Ring’s fabrication, the Dark Lord was driven from Eriador by the Elves in this fight. That being said, there were some significant setbacks, including as a fierce assault at Eregion, the location where Celebrimbor initially fashioned the Rings with him in the play. This suggests that the multi-episode conflict may take place in the Elven city.
The Rings of Power is guaranteeing a general authenticity to the history of Middle-earth, even though the battle will shorten the period of The Lord of the Rings compared to the one Tolkien created. As a result, readers will witness the entire devastating power of the Elves and Sauron’s troops clashing, which will heighten the significance of the conflict. More information on the fight may take some time to surface because the episode premieres on August 29, 2024. But the previews released thus far show how significant an occasion it will be.
