Netflix has secured the distribution rights to 50 Cent’s upcoming Diddy docuseries, Diddy Do It, following a competitive bidding war.
The bidding war for the distribution rights to 50 Cent’s upcoming Diddy documentary, Diddy Do It, has been won by Netflix. While it is still in production, the documentary will center on accusations made against producer and rapper Diddy.
Rapper and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, one of the most controversial people in music today, found and produced a number of musicians, including Usher, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, and the Notorious B.I.G. Diddy has always faced controversy in his roles as a producer, rapper, and company owner. But because of additional information that has come to light and accusations of sexual assault from the past and now, Combs will inevitably fall from grace.
In December 2023, hip-hop artist and producer 50 Cent—who also founded G-Unit Film & Television—kicked up the controversy by declaring that his production company would be making a documentary about the accusations made against Combs, with all proceeds going to support victims of sexual assault.
The amount of public interest in the documentary Diddy Do It led to a major bidding war. For distribution rights, a number of TV networks and streaming services competed; in the end, Netflix prevailed.
What accusations are made against Sean “Diddy” Combs?
several victims of Combs have made several accusations of sexual assault. The most well-known of these accusations came from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who sued the producer in November 2023 on charges of rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse. Additionally, he was accused of being the cause of Ventura’s then-boyfriend Kid Cudi’s car blowing up.
Combs’ victims have accused him of sexual abuse several times. Cassie Ventura, the producer’s ex-girlfriend, sued him in November 2023 for rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse. This lawsuit is the most well-known of his allegations. He was also charged with being the cause of the car explosion involving Ventura and her ex-boyfriend Kid Cudi.
In April, Combs was named as a defendant in a case against his son, Christian, who claimed to have sexually abused former employee Grace O’Marcaigh. Combs’ participation in the case stems from his alleged aiding and abetting his son in the assault and then paying to cover it up.
A sixth person has made new charges in a lawsuit against Combs for sexual assault that occurred in 2003.
Diddy’s Downfall
Sean Combs’ clothing brand, Sean John, was removed from Macy’s department and online stores beginning in November 2023, following the initial charges against him. Combs’ e-commerce venture, Empower Global, saw several corporations drop their relationship with it. Following this, Hulu reportedly cancelled a reality series centred on Combs and his family. He also stood down as chairman of Revolt TV.
After publicly defending himself against the allegations on numerous occasions, Combs’ demise was all but confirmed on May 17th, 2024, when CNN published CCTV video footage of Combs assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, on March 5th, 2016.
When will Netflix start streaming Diddy Do It?
As of this writing, Diddy Do It’s release date has not been officially announced. Production is apparently still continuing strong, and G-Unit Film & Television will no doubt be working hard to include as many data as possible into the docuseries as new information about the accusations made against Combs becomes available.
More information should be available soon.
