OVERVIEW
Rapman, the inventor of Supacell, plans to produce more seasons, including a three-season run.
The success of the show rests on viewing; Netflix will determine whether or not to renew it.
In the British super-powered thriller Supacell, a gang of Black South Londoners suffering from sickle cell illness are the focus.
The Supacell inventor addresses the prospect of a second season in an open manner. The six-episode British superhero thriller series, which debuted on Netflix in late June, centers on a group of five regular individuals who unintentionally acquire abilities. Apart from a few specifics, this group doesn’t share many similarities. First of all, they are all Black residents of South London. The other is that they must avoid being captured by a covert group since they have a history of sickle cell disease.
Supacell designer Rapman discussed the prospect of a second season in an interview with UNILAD. Rapman, who co-wrote and co-directed several of the show’s episodes, ended on a positive note by saying he’s been honest with Netflix about his desire to produce future seasons. He went on to say that he had a three-season plan, but he issued a warning that the success of the thriller and audience would determine whether it is continued. See the complete quotation below:
“I have repeatedly informed Netflix that I intend to produce several seasons.” However, as is often the case, they will assess the situation and, ideally, produce a second season. However, I revealed to them that I was thinking of a three-season notion plot. I therefore have three storylines, these three seasons, in my head, where I know where the story goes. I’m not saying it could never end. Thus, my hope is that it gets out, does a great job, and we can move on to a second portion.
There may be hope for Supacell’s second season with the new Netflix data.
The Program Is Already Widely Popular
Supacell has already had an influence on Netflix’s global Top 10 chart for English-language television shows since its June 27 launch. During the week of June 24–30, the series garnered 33.5 million views and 6.4 million hours of viewing, placing it in second place overall. It performed better than well-known series like Sweet Tooth, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and earlier seasons of Bridgerton. Bridgerton season 3, the most recent season of the romance series, topped the list.
It increases the likelihood of a second installment if it maintains the momentum, as Rapman advises. In addition, the British thriller has received high appreciation from critics and audiences alike. It has an audience score of 81% and a pristine 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 12 reviews. The Supacell cast, which includes Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Eddie Marsan, and others, is highly praised by critics for their performances.
Supacell season 1’s conclusion does make an effort to offer some closure for the narrative, but there are multiple obvious setups for a sequel. There are betrayals, an unveiling of a new, supposedly more formidable foe, and even a post-credits scene. Since Netflix has been quite transparent about prioritizing global hits that reach beyond the U.S., it will be important to monitor the show’s performance on the streaming service’s charts in the upcoming weeks in order to assess the show’s chances.
