Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver’s major death and its potential for rebirth are discussed by director Zack Snyder.
OVERVIEW
At the conclusion of Rebel Moon — Part Two, Gunnar dies: The Scargiver was meant to be a good fit for Kora and him.
The next R-rated version of the film will go into additional depth about Gunnar and Kora’s relationship, which was intended to give her a sense of independence.
Snyder affirmed that Gunnar will not resurrect in any upcoming works.Director Zack Snyder has not been hesitant revealing the destiny of a character that was tragically lost in Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver. Netflix’s Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire, which debuted barely four months ago, is a follow-up that picks up Kora’s battle against the Motherworld. Kora and her new allies launch an insurrection against Atticus Noble and the Imperium as they get ready to attack a Veldt colony. She loses Gunnar, a farmer who falls in love with her, in the process.Gunnar’s terrible death at Rebel Moon 2’s ending has a profound effect on Kora’s future. Zack Snyder described its purpose during an interview with Collider, noting that the figure exists to “liberate” Kora, and his death will permanently impact her direction as a warrior and as a person. Snyder also made it clear that there will be no more Rebel Moon content featuring Gunnar, who is now dead for good. See his entire statement below:
As far as Kora’s character is concerned, he truly represents in many ways the first love she’s had, formed solely out of choice and from her own sort of free will being in a place of independence for the first time, really, in her life. Actually, I knew what his work was from the beginning. Therefore, I believe that his task was to somewhat free her from her emotional bonds, and I believe he succeeded in doing so. And Michiel excels in that area. And as we have discussed, he is actually teaching her intimacy and all these other things during their romantic session in the R-rated version. She seems to know what she’s doing in that sexual relationship, but I believe he’s really guiding her towards a slightly more sensitive place. You will notice that I was unable to show that he is actually [dead] because of the PG-13 nature of it all. This time, we succeeded in getting him.
Part Two of The Tragic Deaths in Rebel Moon: An Explanation of The Scargiver
Nemesis and Gunnar Lost Their Lives Defying the Imperium
An influential period of Kora’s life comes to an end with Gunnar’s passing. Princess Issa’s amazing survival means that her fight is not over, but her freeing bond with Gunnar is. Thanks to Gunnar, Kora was able to learn about mankind after serving for the Imperium for a considerable amount of time. He stood behind Kora to remind her of all she was fighting for because, as a farmer, he was an inexperienced warrior and ill-prepared to live as a rebel. As such, he represented humanity.
Nemesis, Doona Bae, was yet another significant setback for the insurgents. Having witnessed her children and her planet perish at the hands of the Motherworld, the assassin turned against the Imperium. The only significant casualties on the rebel side were her and Gunnar, both of whom received closure prior to their passing. When a small kid consoled Veldt in her last moments, Gunnar was reassured that she was secure and that Nemesis had at last found peace. After Noble passed away, Kora had the chance to say farewell to him, which will inspire her even more to fight on.
The fact that Princess Issa survived suggests that in any upcoming Rebel Moon film, the rebels will have something new to fight for. At last, Noble has passed away, the King’s Gaze is destroyed, and Kora gets a chance to earn Issa’s forgiveness. Similar to how Gunnar offered a chance to establish a connection with humanity, Issa is the ideal leader of the Realm and has the power to bring in a better era. In Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, Gunnar and Nemesis sacrificed their lives to save Veldt; their demise altered Kora and offered the rebels and the Realm a genuine chance to battle.
