An actor from the Black Panther movie series is throwing his hat in the ring to play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
One Marvel star is adamant that he wants the role while co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn mulls over who will play Batman in the DC Universe, including The Brave and the Bold. Star of the Black Panther film series Winston Duke claims he “would love to” be the Dark Knight of the DC Universe.
In an interview with Slash Film, Duke discussed his dream to be the lead guardian of Gotham City in the DCU and advised supporters to launch a campaign on his behalf. Apart from his admiration for the character, Duke claims that his main driving force is to debunk stereotypes about what Batman ought to be like or stand for. “Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]?,” Duke replied. “I would say that you are challenged to follow me on all of these social media platforms. Acquire your community. I would adore doing that. To play Batman, that would be amazing. Any chance to work with fresh characters and rewrite stories around some of these deeply held beliefs about how these characters should act, look, and sound would be very appreciated. I wholeheartedly support it.”
Winston Duke Is Seeking a New Superhero Film Part
Duke has acted as Bruce Wayne in David S. Goyer’s audio drama podcast series on Spotify, Batman Unburied. Season 1 of the podcast will air in 2022 and have ten episodes. The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark, a spinoff series, debuted in October of last year. Batman Unburied garnered favourable reviews from reviewers and was approved for a second season later that year.
Marvel Cinematic Universe viewers are familiar with Duke from his role as the formidable chief of the Wakanda mountain tribe, M’Baku, in the Black Panther flicks, which starred Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, and the late Chadwick Boseman. The actor, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago, was also in the last two Avengers movies, Endgame and Infinity War.
Actors interested in portraying Batman in the DCU have publicly indicated interest, including Duke. In Gunn’s reimagined cinematic universe, Reacher star Alan Ritchson expressed his desire to portray The Dark Knight, and Jake Gyllenhaal has also expressed interest in the role. For months, Gunn has refuted reports that Batman is being cast, stating that no progress has been made because a screenplay has not yet been created. Since that The Brave and the Bold isn’t being deemed an immediate priority, fans will have to wait a bit. While Andy Muschetti, the director, has other commitments, Gunn is busy filming the Superman comeback.
While promoting his most recent movie, The Fall Guy, in which he stars with Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Duke has been hoping for a possible casting call for Batman. In the film, Duke portrays Dan Tucker, a stunt coordinator and Gosling’s best buddy.
